“When someone really hears you without passing judgment on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mold you, it feels damn good.”

-Carl Rogers

My story.

My life has had many defining moments that all enriched who I am as a therapist. It’s funny how moments can remind you of your deepest values, which is exactly how I feel as I reflect on the power of empathy, the importance of authenticity, and the profound impact of feeling truly seen and understood. These aren’t just principles I carry in my work as a therapist but in my life as a whole.

Growing up with a sibling with special needs profoundly shaped how I view the world and the people in it. It taught me to see each person through a strengths-based lens, valuing their unique gifts and contributions. I learned early to celebrate individuality which has been a gift inside and outside of the therapy room.

And with so much care at an early age for others, I faced the realization that pouring into those around me meant I needed to see how important it would become to care for myself along the way. Later in life, I found myself balancing the dual roles of caregiving for my children and my parents. I felt first-hand how important it was to create harmony between caring for others and caring for myself. This balancing act, though challenging, deepened my compassion and understanding of the complexities of human experience and what it truly means to have self-care infused into life.

Learning to care for myself and be attuned to my needs was needed more than ever during one of the most transformative periods of my life. I found myself navigating the grief journey when caring for my father through his experience with dementia and Alzheimer’s until his passing. Walking alongside him through this process brought moments of profound heartbreak and also deep connection, reshaping my relationship with loss and the passage of time.

As I’ve continued to foster my own self-care to remain grounded through every part of my story, I’ve found a connection with loved ones, nature, and engaging in activities that fill me with joy and creativity essential practices. Whether it’s a meaningful conversation, the unconditional love of a dog, or a quiet moment of reflection, I’m filled up by the simple yet profound experiences that bring connection, peace, and purpose.

I’m so grateful for the ways my story has shaped who I am, while also feeling the pain that came along with them. My experiences and transitions with age ultimately taught me to accept and appreciate the beauty in change—even when it feels overwhelming. They’ve fueled my commitment to creating a space where others can process their own transitions and challenges, reconnect with their inner strength, and move toward a life aligned with their values.

And now, it’s my privilege to help others discover their own resilience and navigate the complexities of life with grace and intention.
