The Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Process
Modern Therapy collaborates with Journey Clinical, a ketamine clinic for clients that are interested in treatment and would like to work with our clinicians for therapy support along the way.
Ketamine administration and medical oversight from Journey Clinical is required, allowing MT to focus purely on providing the therapeutic space and trained support in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Your Journey Clinical medical provider will discuss with you dosing, cadence for follow up medical appointments, cost, and potential maintenance sessions in collaboration with your KAP therapist. If you have questions between medical appointments, you can also reach your Journey Clinical provider through your patient portal.
Important notes about
ketamine therapy
>> We strongly suggest a minimum of 3-4 50-minute sessions of pre-prep prior to each ketamine treatment. These sessions are vital for establishing rapport, safety, and prepping you for the dosing session for best outcomes.
>> A full ketamine protocol is typically 8 dosing sessions, but everything is client dependent. We take ketamine one session at a time to fit your needs. Each dosing session is 3 hours.
>> Consistent with Modern Therapy practice, we do not impose a manualized approach and rather tailor therapeutic support to fit your actual needs and goals.
>> An integration session will be held within 24-72 hours of each dosing session. These sessions range from 50 - 80 minutes in duration.
>> This is an effective form of treatment for couples and individuals
MODERN THERAPY PRICING:
$235 50-minute prep and integration sessions
$376 80-minute prep and integration sessions

Frequently Asked Questions:
Ketamine Assisted Therapy
-
The benefits of ketamine can support symptoms of depression, anxious thoughts and anxiety disorders, chronic pain, high blood pressure, mood disorders, dissociative effects, cognition, substance use, and addictive tendencies among other mental health conditions. At Modern Therapy, we would not suggest ketamine as a regular antidepressant or treatment for severe depression.
Ketamine assisted therapy is an alternative healing method that helps you understand yourself deeper and process thoughts more clearly. Modern Therapy also has passionate therapists specializing in working through depression and feeling held in your experience.
-
Ketamine can often provide some quick relief for depression as a different pathway of relief than a traditional oral antidepressant. The integrative process of ketamine treatment for depression includes therapy to increase receptivity and accessing difficult emotions that may feel challenging to confront otherwise.
If you're experiencing major depression and feel curious about medication such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) we would highly recommend speaking with a psychiatrist or seeking supervision of a doctor to identify the best path forward.
-
The effects of ketamine can disrupt negative thought patterns and cycles that can often fuel addiction or unhealthy coping mechanisms. Many times, the assistance of ketamine can allow you to access underlying emotional challenges with support from a therapist to find new perspectives. Ketamine acts like glutamate receptors (basically what helps you form memories) and can help you form new neural connections that can reduce negative thoughts and emotional pain.
Addiction means different things to everyone, so this process is very individualized. At the same time, it may be a great goal to bring to your experience as you begin to journey and explore more of yourself.
-
The mental health benefits of ketamine can extend to those who have trauma or PTSD as part of their story. It offers an additional layer to talk therapy that can help you understand memories and moments of emotional dysregulation in a new way.
While every experience is unique, this alternative healing method may be a way to access places you haven't been able to go before and see a significant decrease in barriers to talk about or process events, in a safe space with a trusted therapist to guide you.
-
At this time, Modern Therapy does not offer IV ketamine, nasal spray, or any type of FDA approved intravenous infusion treatment options.
Ketamine treatment drug administration occurs in collaboration with Journey Clinical clinic through a gentle sublingual lozenge form in a single dose at a time, as opposed to larger doses of ketamine. This is to support anyone exploring the healing modality to understand how their unique body and mind may react. We're happy to talk more about our approach and how it's benefited clients at all stages of life and treatment.
-
Yes! It's always a good idea to talk to a health care provider or psychiatrist to understand the effectiveness of ketamine in addition to any existing medications as well as FDA approval and details that will help you determine if its the best fit for your care. Especially for those who are looking to discuss risk of addiction, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, and specific reactions to ketamine products, the help of a health provider who knows your history can give you peace of mind and insight into the best route forward.
From there, our team is here to support you through the process and help you feel empowered and comfortable as you journey.
Some potential side effects to be aware of include:
Dissociation

Restlessness or adverse effects like anxiety
We'll prepare you for your experience with the best self care and wellbeing tips leading up to your session so that you're in the best position to have a positive journey, knowing we're here to hold space for you no matter what happens.

Ketamine-assisted therapy is growing in availability, awareness, and clinical trials from institutions such as the Yale School of Medicine. The origins of ketamine date back to the Vietnam war where it was used as a surgical anesthetic by medical professionals looking for new methods of safe sedation.
Over the years, the research only grows, telling us things like ketamine's influence on the neurotransmitter glutamate to improve symptoms of schizophrenia and major depressive disorder. Our team has undergone extensive training from well-respected institutions to become certified ketamine therapists and introduce a new method of healing to our community.

MT is an out-of-network provider so your mental health professional does not accept insurance outright, but we can empower you with how to make best use of your insurance benefits. In fact, we’ve laid out a 4-part process for out-of-network coverage here.
Many of our clients are able to file and receive a reimbursement for individual therapy on a sliding scale anywhere between 50-80% of session cost after meeting their deductible. Many quality therapists are out-of-network so it’s worth asking the question about mental health coverage as you seek the best depression therapist or other type of therapist fit for you.
If you plan to file for out-of-network reimbursement for mental health services, please make this clear when scheduling with us to ensure your clinician’s specific license and service is eligible for insurance reimbursement.
